I recently purchased the ARP2600v emulator but I'm really confused on how to record music with it. If I wanted to record electronic music with it, what would I need to record this synthesizer? Help! Any recommendations of software/hardware would be good too and keep in mind I have Microsoft not Mac

Macs are great at professional audio applications, but there are great PC recording programs too. Arturia's ARP2600V can run as a VST plugin, which is a standard developed by Steinberg, the company that makes Cubase.

Cakewalk and Sonar (both now owned by Roland) also host VSTs. Sonar (really an extended version of Cakewalk) will run VSTs (like your ARP 2600V,) and it records extremely well. It also midi sequences, which means that you can enter notes and it will play them into the ARP. Both Sonar and Cakewalk are written from the ground up to run on Windows.

Cubase is written for both Mac and Windows and is another great VST host (after all, they invented it.) It also records and sequences.

If you have a keyboard or midi controller, you can also use that to play your software synthesizer providing you have an interface cable - usually a MIDI to USB interface cable.

You may also want to try downloading a VST host from Hitsquad: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/

I haven't actually used any of the ones listed as I have Sonar and use that.

Electronic musicians use computers to record. Most of them use Mac not PC. You really have to invest in Mac, even the cheapest one will do. Using PC to make electronic music is a no win situation. You don't want to end up spending a lot of money on equipment and software for your PC and only find out it's really not a good tool to make music.

Mac already has a basic software which comes with the computer you can put audio in and record your instrument. All you need is to get the right cable to connect your instrument to your computer.

education. digital musicians are musicians first. in case you may't differentiate between some thing playing a Bb loop or an Em7 bassline your in intense worry. you don't want a existence lengthy dedication to piano/keyboards yet you do want some expertise and abilities you'll want to understand composition and association. at the moment's techo/electronica is a lot extra then 3 loops. it is necessary to be knowledgeable in audio engineering there's a lot extra to making a sound then twiddling with sliders.
