GPS Systems?

GPS units are the latest fad, and while many of them are superb, they have, for my application, one serious flaw: They don't offer a wireless remote antenna. In my case, our Class C motorhome with cab overhang precludes dash mounting unless a 16' cable is strung across the dash, up through the bed, then dangled from the skylight to insure a signal. Trashy. In addition to a neat install, a w/less set up would offer numerous advantages, such as a simple switch to your car or having the monitor elsewhere in the coach. I believe the mfgrs. know this and would prefer that you buy several units rather than go thru the hassle.Let's face it, wireless remote technology has been around for many years. I'll wait.

I think RobertJ is on the right track, you can probably get something like a mouse GPS or similar where you have enough signal strength on the cable (Or wireless transmission) to get the signal over 20 feet or whatever length might be needed, to a PDA. I suspect a Bluetooth GPS would fit the bill perfectly, I would find a retailer locally and see if you can have it tested in your rig make sure the signal would make to the PDA. You can get a PDA fairly cheaply, if you want to buy one first, make sure it has Bluetooth capability.

I use a Bluetooth GPS with a PDA (mine is an IPAQ). The Bluetooth unit is rechargeable and battery operated or can be plugged in to a DC outlet.
