I'm looking to purchase a small TV for my bedroom with an integrated DVD player which has to be multi-region. Freeview would be a bonus, but is not essential.

I'm a complete technology doofus and so don't know where to start, does anyone know of any good ones?

I live in the UK.

Thanks in advance :)

My wife and I bought a Hitachi 22in HD Ready Digital LCD TV/DVD Combi - 4 Series from Argos for our bedroom.

We've no complaints so far. We've also got a 19" Hitachi DVD combi in the spare room which we bought over six years ago and both TV & DVD always worked great and still do.

With the new one I made it region 0 and have played region 1 & 2 DVD's in it and the picture is perfect. It also plays Divx movies,CD's,Mp3 files,DVD-R discs,Jpeg files & Slide shows. It also has 2 USB ports. We've also connected our PC to it Via a VGA splitter-great for watching online streams.

Region Free & Divx instructions

1. Select DVD button on the remote control (make sure no disk is loaded).

2. Select the DISPLAY button on the remote control (a menu will appear)

3. Type 1 3 5 7 on the remote control and another menu will appear

4. Using the down arrow button you can now select region'0' for multi region etc.

5. Change the DivX setting from no to yes(this will allow you to play DivX movies)

6. Press the OK button on the remote control

7. Press DISPLAY button on the remote control the menus will disappear.

You should plan on buying a separate TV and DVD player. The DVD players in combo TV/DVD units are usually very cheap and don't last long. With separate units you can replace the DVD player or just have a decent TV if the player fails. You can also look for a region free portable DVD player. You do need to make sure that any TVyou buy, whether it has a built in DVD or not, can display the European TV PAL system and it's digital equivalent as well as the American NTSC and ATSC systems.

There is no such thing as a "good" TV / DVD combo.

They are all, without exception, cheap and very unreliable. The DVD player always fails, meaning you have to replace the whole unit. It doesn't matter what make it is, they are simply not worth wasting your money on.

You are always better off buying a separate TV and DVD player. Always...

Truly, there is no comparison absolutely....simply because watching television relies on the gunky thoughts of a Tv set entertainer who's main concerns are budget, ratings and popularity and to Hell with theme integrity, or, for that matter, anything truly creative.
