I just bought a DivX player and I burned some .avi files onto a DVD+R and it wont read it. I insert the disc and the player tries to read it as a CD rather than a DVD and then it stops and won't go back to the menu screen. How do I fix this?

You don't mentioned which burning software you're using. I also have a divx compatible player and I burn avi videos as "data dvd" using Nero Express. It could be the format or program with which you're burning, that could be why your player sees them as cd, possibly vcd. There's also the possibility that it's only one particular video that might be encoded differently or is HD. In the case of HD your TV would need to be HD & HD option set in your player.

If you are using the DivX Player software, the files will need to be encoded by other DivX software from their website. If its a DVD player, you will have to use software to transcode the files into DVD format. If you just want view the .avi files on a computer, try Windows Media Player or download one of the other free media viewers

avi is a media container format which can be encoded with many different codecs, such as divx, xvid, mpeg-4, mjpeg, etc, so no dvd player can play all avi files, just only support some special avi files, such as your divx dvd player, only can be used to play divx avi files well, not other avi files, so if your video file is right divx avi file, you can directly burn the right divx avi file onto a DVD+R disc and play well on your divx dvd player, but if your video files isn't divx avi file, you need to use a right software to convert your video files to right divx avi files, then burn onto the DVD+R disc, convert any video files to divx avi video files, I know an easy to use software RZ DVD Creator, you can have a try, it can convert any video files to divx avi files, just drag and drop your video files into rz dvd creator, insert your DVD+R disc into your dvd burner drive, and select divx-dvd as target format, then press START button, you will get right divx avi dvd that can be played well on your divx dvd player. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and download it, hope these infos can help you.

First off, you need to have a dvd cd drive in order to play a dvd. And then you must have the codec to play dvd's which you can get off the windows web site. Also look for a program called windvd
