The DVDs I burn...the audio does not match up with the video..I use Nero...any remedies for this problem?

I use Nero software to burn my DVDs...9 out of 10 times..the audio and video are out of sync..I have been told that the menu could be the reason for this....i have made dvds before with this program..with a custom and a basic menu...with both variations I have had success in producing a great quality dvd...is there a specific format of file that is causing nero to mis-register the audio-video...divx,xvid, avi, etc...I dont know..all I do know is that my movies take threes hour approximately to burn.....and I go through a lot of blank dvds...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks
