Electricity uses is charged in kilowatt hours, or 1,000 watts every hour.

For an example let's assume your electric rate is 10 cents per kilowatt hour. 400 watts for one hour would be .4 kwh or 4 cents. If the lights were left on 24 hours a day, that would be 9.6 kwh or 96 cents. This would be about $30 for a month.

The electric bill should show what your cost per kilowatt hour is. Just use your currency unit and kwh charge to determine your cost.
