Question:
Garmin or TomTom?

Garmin or TomTom GPS for my vehicle?

I am considering the following models:

-Garmin Nuvi 350
-TomTom GO 720

Which is better and why?

Do they both offer free updates?

If you had to choose between a 3.5" and 4.3" screen, which one would you choose?

How much nicer is it to have the larger screen? Does it really matter?

Extra:

-It would be nice to get traffic and weather updates, but that's not required.
-MP3 and Photos are nice but not a must.
-Bluetooth is nice as well, but not required.
-Text to speech is a must!
-Hard drive storage is a plus...but if memory cards can be inserted for extra memory that is fine.
-2D and 3D viewing options are a must!
-Must have an AC Adaptor...DC would be nice to have as well.

I'd go for the Nuvi, but would choose one with a widescreen (like the 720 or 750). It's super-fast, has more storage and has all the bells and whistles you would want while being sleek, thin and super-portable.

I have a TomTom 720 and for me the deciding factor was for the price the TomTom has more features , widescreen its much better, once you get the 3.5 inch screen in your car it will look so much smaller you'd wish you had bought the 4.3, bluetooth, hand free calling and traffic update including weather from your cell phone , as this may not sound like something you'd be interested in, the one time you look at some POI and you can call them right from the gps screen its worth it, if you are in trouble you can phone the police or tow truck right from the TomTom screen, TomTom uses tele-atlas it more up to date than garmins navteq maps ,oh and TomTom uses mapshare so you can allways have the most up to date maps ,FM transmitter plays you MP3's, audio books and text to speech right over your FM stereo in your car ,

TomTom is the most popular GPS system in the world , in europe they don't call it a GPS they call it a TomTom, I went to my friends house last night and I know he lives in a new sub-division so I typed the address into the TomTom and there it was, the address not to mention the whole east part of that city didn't even show up on his garmin 350, he's going out to buy a TomTom after christmas and try to sell his garmin. Anyway I hope that helps, P.S next time you see a police or ambulance ask them which GPS they use. and then go out and buy youself a TomTom and be happy....Ren Oh I forgot to mention that those options that you require are only available on the TomTom not Garmin and also the garmins have been having allot of problems lately....I'd beware and read some blogs on the net about garbage I mean garmin

I would honestly go with the TomTom GO 720. This is because the Nuvi 350 does not have bluetooth connection and Photos. I know this because I was a past owner of the Nuvi 350 and was not satisfied because it did not have bluetooth and it was selling for a high price. Right now at the moment I own a similar model as the GO 720 and it is cheaper and comes with more features.

Good Luck.

I tried both before I bought one, and I much prefer Garmins map program to Tom Tom.

4.3". That is better than 3.5", and although the numbers look relatively close, if you look at the screens and compare them, you can see a difference. LIke a 46" tv and a 52" tv, sounds close but comparing them, the 52" tv looks impressively bigger.
