Do I need to use a lithium battery for my watch?

I have a Tag Heuer Alter Ego Ladies Watch model # WP1311.BA0750. It takes two batteries (364). The batteries recently died, and when I opened the back, I noticed the batteries are lithium. Do I have to use lithium batteries on this or can I just use standard? Serious answers are well appreciated. Thanks

You are incorrect in assuming that the battery you took out is a Lithium battery. 364 is a Silver Oxide watch battery 1.55V. Your problem is that you opened an expensive watch (eBay say it is worth $800). The reason for the expense is partly due to water tight containment. Once you break the seal and you don't have the correct O-ring for replacement, then your watch may leak and all it takes is a little moisture to get your watch to fog up inside and thus you can't read the time and then your watch is just another useless jewelery piece. My suggestion is to take it to a good watch repair shop to get the work done and the battery is the least of your cost.

The lithium batteries you are asking about do not recharge. The advantage of a lithium battery over a standard battery is the lithium will maintain its voltage longer than the alkaline battery before it reaches its end of life. By holding the voltage longer, it will run the watch for a longer period of time. However, the lithium battery is more expensive than the alkaline, so the question now is: can you afford the lithium or get away with the alkaline. If you want to know how long an alkaline will last in the watch then you may want to try it. Most people change a lithium for a lithium.

The best thing you have to do is replace it's batteries with the same ones that were included with the watch in the first place.



I would also recommend taking it to a watchmaker to change them for you, because if you close the back in the wrong way, the watch may lose it's waterproof properties.
