Can I fax long distance from my home phone/fax machine through a calling card if my coverage is only local?

I'm trying to fax something long distance, but since my phone coverage is only local calls, the long distance fax is not going through... so i've been trying to send the fax by first using a calling card. can that work? (for some reason, it hasn't worked so far, but I'm not sure why)

If you can use the calling card for voice calls over long distance, then it can be used for faxes, too.

If it hasn't worked so far, there's two possible reasons.

1. You can't make long distance calls for voice calls even with your calling card.

2. There may need to be pauses between the access number of the calling card, and the phone number you're trying to reach.

If so, when entering the calling card number, you'll have to enter an asterisk (*) for each 1-second pause needed. If it takes 5 seconds for the access number to connect, then you'd need to use five asterisks between the calling card number and the fax number.

I suggest you use online faxing services. There is no need for an extra phone lines, paper or ink expenses, just $8 a month and you also get a free local or toll free number.

Plus, you can fax to anywhere at anytime and trust me it saves you tons of money in the long run.

You can try it free right now, at http://faxfromyourcomputer.com/ you will find the best online faxing services that all provide a FREE 30 day trial, I personally use RingCentral.

Yes, you will be charged. As long as the fax number is long distance then you will be charged for long distance.
