My husband works offshore. I'm looking for some kind of smart/wifi capable light that is controlled with an app, so he can control it while he is offshore. Like, when he's thinking of me, he could turn the light on in our house. Does something like this exist?

Depends on the cell phone your husband uses. The "smart switches/lights" mentioned by other posters assume the phone being used and the "smart-light-control is properly connected to a computer network.

I recently got a couple of iDevice outdoor plugs for our Christmas lights. It can work with both Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) through Apple's Home kit (assuming a Home hub has been identified - I use and AppleTV v4) or by using the app supplied by iDevices... and various Android devices using the iDevices supplied app. It could be used with an indoor plug... and you can connect whatever light or other alerter you want to it.

If your husband uses a non-smartphone ("feature phone"), there may be some options - but rather than go that route here, we need to know what we have to work with.

Any of the smart/home automation lights can do that. It's less a matter of the light and more a matter of a gateway that supports your exact use case.

You might want to check out IFTTT (if this then that) - that would, in principle, permit you to set it up so that your light goes on when his pulse rises ;-)
