Question:
Radar Detector false alarms?
2009-01-30 14:11:05 UTC
Does anyone ever have false alarms on their radar detector? i have a Cobra ESD-7000, and it works really good when their are cops. (no speeding tickets to my name, well not yet..) anyways, about 3 times the Laser detector has went off when i am just starting to pass someone, just after i press down the accelerator. It freaks me out, so i go back were i was, and then .... guess what..... no cop! it is so annoying. is it this radar detector? is it somehow detecting the acceleration? it the energy bouncing off the car ahead? i am lost, and can't find anything on the net... if anyone has a clue please let me know. thanks. (and for everyone else that says i shouldn't speed, i am not a crazy driver, no accidents, i go 5-15 mph over the speed limit so don't say anything negative.) just informative answers please

All radar detectors have false alarms. Laser false alrams are usually few and far in between. I don't think it's detecting your acceleration. Some cars have laser guided cruise control which may be setting it off. I have only had two laser false alarms with my Valentine One and usually it is due to some vehicle having laser guided cruise control or a certain type of brake lights.

Radar Detector False Alarms

A radar detector picks up anything that uses radar. That includes automatic doors at supermarkets. Next time that happens, check where you are. If your near a big store, it's more than likely picking up the radar form the doors. The detector shouldn't be set off by acceleration. It's not detected to the accelerator at all, and it doesn't read motion.

And, FYI, 5-15 over the speed limit is kinda going into crazy territory. SLOW DOWN.

Hey you keep your radar detector. Go as fast as YOU deem is safe and trust in your quality radar detector, keeping in mind that there are laser guided cruise controls in the newer vehicles that will set it off. If you are a safe driver, you also have to keep in mind the faster you go, the more you have to keep a look out for the slower vehicles who are startled when you pass them (therefore become angry) because they are not aware of what is going on around them.

Police allow 9 miles over the post speed limit. You said you go over 5-15 mph which tells me that's not true. Why not be truthful and say 15+ over the limit. Police radar/laser are constantly being updated and all radar detectors are not even 85% accurate. You will get your ticket.

I used to have a radar detector but gave up using it because, I discovered that with all the electronics around to-day it would go off if I approached a service station and with all the servos around it was a waste of time. There could be other electronic devices that would also set one off these days

possibly the police are smarter than you think of and have began leaving actual working (yet unmanned) radars gun alongside the line (related to timber, telephone poles, or despite) to set off your radar detector, so as which you initiate ignoring it (or turn off your radar detector) and get caught rushing the place the police are. of course, you will desire to nevertheless steer away from a fee ticket by potential of rather slowing down everywhere.
