So many of us know how to assemble a desktop. Some of us even know how to assemble a laptop. Does anyone know how to assemble your own cell phone or printer or modem ?

Can it be done?

Eli is an optimist - all these nice new electronic toys use TINY surface mount (SMD) components that are assembled by machines onto bespoke multi-layer circuit boards. I used to be a QA inspector at a place that made such boards, and had to use a binocular microscope and needle-tip iron to perform rework on them - VERY demanding!

Yes. If I dis-assemble it first. Some things dis-assemble well, and are rather modular.

If you mean buy parts and build a printer or cell phone like you would by a case, PSU, motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDD and such for a desktop PC, no, you cannot do that.

Yes, i know how to set-up a cell phone, printer & modem.Who doesn't or are you asking if i know how to manufacture my own cell phone or printer or modem? Depending if the PCB have all the components pre-soldered it shouldn't be to complicated finding schematics might be difficult let alone parts that have to be custom made. The modem and the cell phone should be the easiest to make with basic electrical knowledge.
