is there such thing available to the consumer ?

Im planning to travel to Europe and I think it would be very useful to have one.. I really bad with maps.. (I already got lost in China for half a day lol)

But also theres the issue of people taking advantage of you because you look like a vulnerable tourist.

So is there such a thing, and what is it called ? I may buy it online from a trustworthy wholesale electronic retailer

any GPS is only as good as the ground maps.

Garmin is the best.

You need to buy the maps in the country you are visiting. The hotel gift shop sells the maps on microSD cards.

If you do not want to live by the internal maps, get a Garmin GPSIII+ (3+) and go by the lon/lat and maps on your computer (Google Earth).

The problem with China and not so much Europe, is that there are very few ACCURATE maps in Mainland China. Maybe along the east coast, but not much more 100 miles inland.

I never had a problem in China, they WELCOMED American Tourists - unlike Frog-land.

You can buy a GPS now, and add maps of Europe (or other countries) later, or you can buy one with maps of Europe pre-loaded before you go. Amazon typically has good prices and is also reliable.

If you want to go with Garmin, select a model number that has a "7" as the second digit from the right, like a 275T or 1370T. Those have maps of both North America and Europe pre-installed. Other models have North America only. See here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

TomTom is also a good brand, but I'm not familiar with their models.
