KIND of DVD is limited only by your player. 95% of them these days will accept DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. Brand, on the other hand, is much more important than people realize. Many brand name blanks are really made by another company and are not so reliable. Sony and TDK manufacture their own brand and are considered to be very reliable. Me, I've found my best reliability with Maxell. Even though they're really made by Rydata, it's recommended by the DVD forums at large.

But that's for reliability. To get it to play on your regular DVD player, to begin with, requires additional software than just the standard DVD buring software that comes with most computers. While Data DVDs and Video DVDs use the exact same disc, the burning process is different. Video DVDs are encoded with addtional information that makes them readable by regular players. I've been using Nero with good results for over 6 years now. There are some free ones as well, but I can't speak about their reliability.

One last item, there are specific techniques for burning Video DVDs, too, that are not covered in standard software instructions. But they will help to reduce or eliminate playback issues later on.

All kinds of writable dvd disc are right, such as DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc. But you should note, if want to play the burned dvd in a regular DVD player, it's the most important that you need to use a right dvd burning software to burn a standard video DVD from your mp4 movies, because most regular DVD players only recognise standard video DVD well, so you can follow me to use RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any format movies to standard video DVD and burn to any kind of dvd disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), such as convert and burn mp4 movies to standard video DVD that can play well in regular DVD player, easy to use, insert a dvd disc into your computer dvd burner drive, run RZ DVD Creator, select the dvd burner drive as the target folder, drag and drop your mp4 movies into the software, then press the START button, you will get a good standard video DVD, and you can play the burned standard video DVD well in your regular DVD player. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and download it, hope these infos can help you.

Kind of DVD is not important. What is important is the way you are writing the files... You can use Nero - which is the best standard software to burn a DVD. It will guide you without much Complications.
