You'd better finalize the DVD to make a video DVD disc. If you wanna make a DVD that will work on a standard DVD player, you will need a DVD burning tool to do this. Just copy the movie to a DVD disc, it will actually not read by DVD players.

I am using a tool called DVD Creator which lets me burn AVI and all other kinds of videos to DVD easily. Any format you want, it can burn to DVDs. Supports Single and Dual Layer Disc. Easy to use and professional. It lets you burn multiple AVI movies on one DVD disc. And it's fast.

Once you've burnt the DVD, you can watch it on DVD player through TV.

You may give it a try. Check out the step by step guide at:

Best of luck.

The only formats that all DVD players can generally play, are DVD-Video, and CD-Audio, that is it.

Anything else is a decision of the designer/manufacturer of that player to include capability for.

a DVD movie player expects the video to be either MPEG2 or MPEG1 format with MPEG3 audio. but there is more involved than the codec for the files. the DVD itself has to be setup as a movie DVD which is probably the main problem. using a computer and its file manager will burn a DVD-rom, not a movie DVD. you need to use movie creation software such as Roxio or Nero to get a playable DVD.

DVD format is VOB. It contains two folders Video_TS and Audio_TS, you have to convert your video to DVD compatible video and finalize the DVD, otherwise regular DVD player can not read and play it. If you want to know how to burn video to DVD to play on DVD player, I think this step by step guide would help you, it will show you the detailed steps on converting video to DVD format, burning video to DVD, it's easy to understand and works pretty well for me.
