The battery in my Timex, which I bought 8 years ago, finally died. Im trying to pop the back of the watch off to replace the battery but it's hard to do. Any special tool for this? And how the heck did they replace the watchband a couple years ago? I dont see how to get that off either. I dont have any jeweler's tools.

You need to look around the cover on the back of the watch for a raised lip. This is where you'd place a BLUNT knife to lever the case from the back of the watch. That is assuming the case is a snap back type. If it's a screw back (which usually has 6 equally spaced indents around the watch's case) then a pair of snipe nose pliers can be used to unscrew the case.

The watch band is probably located by a couple of spring bars which when compressed will release the strap.

The reference below is a good source for information on how to replace the watch battery and also has information on how to replace a watch band. They also sell Timex watch straps.

You do need a special tool to chage the batteries and watch bands. Save the watch, and take it to any jewelry store and they will change it, for little cost. I know JCPENNY does it for $10.

Try a swiss army knife or a razor blade.
