I'm interested in buying a nexus 7 II come black Friday and I'm not really familiar with gps and tablets in general and i wanted to know if it needs internet access gps on the nexus
The gps app i know that works well is igo prima (mostly because of it's simplicity \ my dad will be using it as a navigation sometimes )
Thank you! (I'm in Romania)

GPS does NOT need wifi or internet access.

However some apps do. e.g. Google maps and Google navigation which come with the Nexus 7 need an internet connection to load maps and calculate directions. So the GPS doesn't need the internet but being able to do anything with the information the GPS is giving you does.

I have no experience with igo prima but as a general rule if it stores the maps on the device then you shouldn't need wifi for it to work. If it loads the maps as needed from the internet then it will.

The majority of tablets require that you be in a area that has internet access such as through your home internet network or in a area that offers free Wi-Fi internet such as coffeeshops or certain fast food locations. If you are not in a area that does not have internet access then some of your apps such as the gps will not work because there is no internet.

For some people they use their cell phone as a hotsport for internet access. That means their cell phone can give internet access to their devices such as their tablets using Wi-Fi. Of course this is a monthly fee with their cell phone plan.
