Question:
How do I disable the alarm system (ADT) on a single door? From the inside... not a thief?

I have an ADT alarm system, with the digital panal, and I want a single window to be unconnected from the system, is there anyway to do this short of calling ADT?

ADT aka Tyco typically uses 2 brands of panels (Just private labled)

The feature you are looking for is bypass

If the panel is a DSC press *1 (Might have to enter your code here) When the bypass light comes on press the number corresponding to the window (depending on the system it may have to be a 2 digit number ie 01 etc) Press [#] to return to normal status.

If Ademco, enter code immediately followed by bypass key then the zone number. If successful you will hear a beep. The keypad should indicate a bypass status. Waiting too long between key strokes will cause this not to work.

This is just a temporary measure, the zone will unbypass once the system goes through an arming cycle (Armed then disarmed) If you want something more permanent call service. If you are not monitored, try to find a local campany to help you out. You might get a better rate than ADT as they are generally not in the service business, they just want monitoring contracts. There is a way you can possibly do it through the panel, but it would not be wise for me to post that on the internet. Plus if you do it wrong, it could result in false alarms.

The panel should allow you to bypass a certain "zone". Check the zone the window is and use the keys to bypass it.

Even better, ask ADT to install two sensors in that window; one for completeley closed and one somehow open. This allows you to keep the window slightly open and the alarm be still on.

For as much as you are probably paying a month to maintain that system, why wouldn't you call ADT to take care of the problem for you? What is your concern?

If there is no sensor, then that door is not part of the system. There would be nothing to disarm. If you want it part of the system, then a sensor would need to be added for that door.

it depends on how they wired the house. if the wired the widow on a circuit by itself; then just disable that circuit. if not then; if its a magnet switch, use a magnet to keep the circuit closed, even w/ the window open.
