I was about to buy DUROPOWER until I read a few horrible reviews and found out they were re-branded from China and suffered replacement part availability, 0 customer service.

In general some people trust american mfg generators. Does anyone have a take on Generac vs Genset brands or are knowledgeable in generators that can say with confidence the brands of great quality, good service & availability of replacement parts and good price??

Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group, LLC. acquired Generac Portable Products in March of 2001. Generac Portable Products are no longer manufactured. Briggs & Stratton now produce a very similar lineup using their own engines instead of Generac engines.

I really like the older Generac lineup such as the 7000EXL 5500XL or the Wheelhouse 5550. If you can find one in good shape give it serious consideration. I'm pleased with my Briggs & Stratton 5500W generator. In the event of a failure there is a very good network of service centers for repair or parts. They also seem to rebrand for several manufacturers such as Craftsman, TroyBilt, and others.

Coleman Powermate does not have a good reputation, but I'd still put them ahead of the Chinese built units. Coleman sold the Powermate division a short time ago.

Check the engine manufacturer of whatever generator you are considering. Tecumseh is not presently manufacturing small engines but replacement parts are still available. Briggs & Stratton is still going strong. I've seen small engines built by Hyundai, Subaru, and Mitsubishi but have no idea about reliability or servicing.

Read through my generator page and links throughout for further information.

You can from choose Yamaha, Coleman, Kohler generators. Renting first could be a good idea so that you can check first its capability and specs before purchasing one.

there are only two generators that are worth the money.
