Is there something that you can buy that I can convert or transfer the music on the cassette to my computer. And don't answer with a stupid answer like I can use a cable from the cassette player I already know that but I can't give that as a present. SO DON'T!!!

There are four approaches to your question:

1. the one you don't want that points out you only need a cable and some free software (audacity)

2. the one that invites you to spend over $100 on an ION USB cassette deck (this includes the very same 'audacity' software)

3. one that suggests you could buy a USB audio interface such as a Griffin iMic for the recipient of your gift ( http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/DIY/accessories.php )

4. and finally a suggestion that you buy MAGIX AUDIO CLEANING software (my personal favourite) if you splash out on the 'deluxe' version, they even throw in the cable!!

You don't want 1, and I can't see why anyone would WANT to spend good money USB cassette deck(2), 3 only gets you half way there, you still need the software, so 4 should be good, if you are determined to spend more then the combination of a Griffin iMic and the MAGIX software would be the perfect gift.

How can you read the music from a cassette without a cassette player?

How can you transfer the signal retrieved by a cassette player to a computer without a cable?

Your easiest solution is a Behringer UCA202: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHUCA202

Just use a stereo RCA cable from a cassette deck into the UCA202 and it will convert the signal to digital. Then you can use a free program like Audacity (something might come with the unit) to save your music.

If you want something more fancy for a gift, go for this:

Ion Cassette to USB deck

It accomplishes the same task in one unit.

Ion, the makers of the USB turntable, also have a USB dual cassette deck, for digitizing your cassette collection.

in all danger the finest way is to discover (thats the aggravating area) a Cassette tape force, i understand they exist, yet they maximum probably arn't made any further. I had one on my old computing gadget. I have not any theory the place to get one however.
