A surge protector in the technical sense of what is itself, whatever form it is, will not save energy.



If you mean a power strip, many of which have surge protection, they can save power if you use the switch on them to turn off all your stuff.

I saw some at microcenter that have a timer in them that shuts off the items connected to it after a set amount of time, they were almost $50.

Sure, get one with an on/off switch and when you are done, like turning off your computer, switch the power cord off too. That way idol equipment won't continue to draw energy and save you money.

No. They will consume energy instead. As you can see they have lights and the have electrical components inside.



To save energy, unplug your appliance from the wall outlet.
