I was wondering how look it would take for me to grasp the basics and be able to mix a few tunes or make a set to play at parties or round my mates house?

Was thinking about getting some CD decks and a mixer but I'm really clueless and wouldn't know where to begin?

The basic of djing is not difficult. You can teach yourself that in like a day or two. The other stuff that make djing unique takes practice. Also knowing which song matches each other and when is the skill you need to earn

Hello, I agree you can't beat pioneer I learnt the hard way with a pair of citronic cdjs which I spent more on fixing them then the original RRP! Ok all values are in Australian $ 2 channel mixer pioneer DJM350 - $575 - has a couple of effects, but gets you the feel of the pioneer and how the cues work with the headphones etc. Or you spend up and get the real deal that they have in the clubs. DJM800 4 channel mixer - $1695 - loads of effects and just a really nice mixing experience CDJs - I have the pioneer cdj-400s that go for $845 and they have been going strong for the past 2 years. They are smaller then a club setup but give you the feel for pioneer equipment. Otherwise cdj1000mk3 retail for $1709 each, really expensive but definitely worth it. My tip is buy the cdj-400s I found the transition between them and the cdj-1000 seamless and easy.
