YES.

All shredders have moving parts that need to be oiled to maintain the quality of performance. It does not matter whether it is strip cut or cross cut.

"Your shredder will run smoother and more efficiently when oiled on a regular basis. "--SEM

"It is recommended that shredding wheels be oiled for every 30 minutes of operation for cross-cut shredders and for every hour of operation for strip-cut models."--Kobra

First, never use a strip cut shredder. They provide almost no security.

Second, don't waste your money on overpriced shredder oil. Just get it from the hardware store.

yeah you should oil...always. Not oiling your shredder is like not watering your lawn.

If you don't water your lawn it dies in a few weeks. The same goes for a paper shredder, if you don't oil, then it won't last very long and you will have to buy another one...what a waste of money.

All paper shredders, regardless of the cutting style, should be oiled. Strip cut shredders, however, do not have as many moving parts as a cross cut shredder. This means it is less likely to break down from lack of oil, but it is recommended to oil your shredder every time you change your bag. This is a good habit to get into.

JeffTny, I wouldn't trust those links from MonoMachines. They seem to be populating Yahoo! answers with questions and answers from their own company. Seems pretty dishonest to me. I personally got my little HSM shredder from Office Zone. Had a good experience there.

Anyway, good luck! Hope this helps. It has kept my paper shredders running for years!
