I am considering buying an ebook reader, but there are so many out there and I don't know which one to chose.. the Sony ones look interesting, as they have a built in dictionary and translator and you can find the definition of a word by simply double tapping on it.. is there any other reader with this feature?

Personal experience:

Well unlike Kindle (beware the brain washing commercials here) 'Read me Binatone' can handle multiple formats of ebooks and even play background music, and play videos (H.264 and MPEG 4).

Ebook formats: txt, pdf, html, chm, rtf, fb2, epub, word, tcr, paml, doc, open e-book, open reader and mobi. They even provide you with this free link to convert some more formats before uploading it to your ebook reader.

There is a back light but you can reduce its contrasts and therefore saving your battery and your eyes from strain in 1 go! It also provide for cover, charger, headphones and usb cable.

And it is much cheaper than Sony, PRS-650 Touch edition, Apple iPad. Unlike Kindle which does not support epub ebooks, Binatone does. I paid for mine for €95.99. I highly recommend it.

I have a Kindle and I am very happy with it. It's pretty unfussy, using an email address you send your materials to via wifi, and a good price.

I use it to read papers and articles for uni or books for pleasure. Currently I'm reading Moby Dick (free from the Project Gutenberg) and I love being able to move the cursor over a word and a short definition pops up at the bottom of the screen. If I want a longer description if you press the enter key the Kindle jumps to the relevant page in the dictionary, with variations on the word. After you've finished looking up the word, pressing the back key jumps back to the page of the book.

The dictionary is Oxford Modern English so it contains loads of up to date but also historic words. I would say that my vocabulary has increased! And then you can also highlight and save words or paragraphs, or write notes attached to these highlights using the full qwerty keyboard (really useful for my uni work).

Which ever ebook you end up with I hope you enjoy using it!

I love my Sony ereader. Its not plastic, light, small, sturdy, great battery life, no glare. The Sony Reader Store is easy to use and you can rent books from your local ebook library for free and Im not talkign about the classics you can get anywhere. http://sonysearch.overdrive.com/. You rent them and when they are due you dont really return them, the file will disappear on its own so that is automatically "returning" it. So once you rent it you do nothing, it will expire when it is supposed to.

You can get a Sony reader with wifi if you want to be able to buy books from the reader. I dont have that nor need it. I download many books at once and I prefer to access the bookstore on a computer to view it larger but you can do that even if you have wifi also. You would want wifi if you were going to download daily newspapers or travel alot and want to download stuff without a computer. It hold many books and even more with the memory card (those models that have that, as not all do) but I usually delete my books off the reader when I am done because I can always get them back when I log into my account if I want to reread something.

Also, you can buy books from several sites kobo, ebooks.com, borders, powells books, eharlequin, fictionwise, textbooks, com etc.

I am not sure if any other have those dictionary functions.

I just want to say I love my Sony!

All I've heard from Kindle owners are positive, so much so that I'm considering getting one for myself even though I don't read too too much, it would just be nice to have. Especially for the price. As for the feature you've stated, I believe that the Kindle does have something similar as I've seen something like that before from someone I know who has one. I haven't looked into the Sony's, I just know there's a lot of rave for the Kindle.

I don't think t.v. is a waste materials of your energy, it's just that I see no real use of computer nowadays and there is nothing at all educational or advantageous on now. Children of today face 'entertainment' that is just plain stupid and does not have any morale meaning behind them
